Skype Consult used now by TriBeCa Plastic Surgery
For those of you who do not live in the vicinity of New York City, it is now possible to have a preliminary consult with Dr. Coleman via Skype. This can facilitate the initial patient-doctor contact and will allow Dr. Coleman to not only evaluate your situation, but also formulate preliminary recommendations for treatment.
Many of our patients live outside the metropolitan area of New York City. In fact, our patients come from Canada, Latin America, the Middle East, Europe, Australia, India, Asia, Africa and every part of the United States. In the past, contact has been initiated with long-distance patients through letters, emails, and telephone conversations. These are almost always supplemented with photographs. However, over the last year, patients have been requesting that the initial interaction include a more visual, real-time assessment of their situation such as Skyping.
Now, after our office receives your completed paperwork (patient intake questionnaires) and photos of your areas of concern, we can make an assessment and inform you if you are a good candidate for a procedure. If you wish to speak to Dr. Coleman before coming for a consultation in New York, we can offer an initial patient-doctor contact and evaluation using the technology of Skype.
The Skype consultation is not intended to completely replace the face-to-face consultation process, which in Dr. Coleman’s practice is extensive and emphasizes a through informed consent. (Please click here to read about the LipoStructure Consultation.) For simple, straightforward procedures, it may be possible to schedule and reserve a date for your procedure using Skype before seeing Dr. Coleman in person. However, the Skype consultation and emailed photos are not intended to replace the usual consultation process. Dr. Coleman believes that extensive high quality photographs are essential tools in the evaluation of facial features and body contours prior to and during the procedure. Non-professional cameras can yield distorted photos, and Dr. Coleman will require many specialized views to aid him during the procedure. It is imperative that you have a complete, thorough and unhurried consultation at Tribeca Plastic Surgery prior to any procedure. We prefer that you arrive several days prior to the scheduled procedure so that the plan can be fine-tuned and thoroughly understood by both you and Dr. Coleman.
If it is determined that surgery is feasible, all the routine requirements (medical clearance, blood tests, EKG, mammogram, etc.) must be obtained in a timely fashion. We usually recommend that patients traveling long distances arrive in New York at least 2-3 days prior to surgery to reduce the risks of DVT (deep vein thrombosis, or blood clots). We like patients having facial procedures to stay in New York for at least 3 days after surgery, and patients having body procedures are usually asked to remain in the area for at least six days. We like to be able to remove sutures ourselves and track the recovery process.
