Neck Rejuvenation: New Natural Neck Lift with FDA Approved Non-invasive Ultherapy combined with Coleman Fat Grafting results in lifting, tightening & thickening of the skin
Natural Neck Lifting with Ultherapy and Coleman Fat Grafting
A revolution is about to take place in neck rejuvenation: The FDA has just approved the perfect complement to the natural rejuvenation of Coleman fat grafting: Ultherapy, a treatment that uses non-invasive, micro-focused ultrasound. The Ulthera device is the only noninvasive technology approved by the FDA for lifting. Ultherapy lifts by tightening the deep layers of the neck. This is unlike traditional necklifts in which the skin is pulled behind the ear, altering the natural anatomic relationships present in the youthful neck. Ultherapy lifts without deforming the natural skin position. This lifting is a great way to complement the natural rejuvenating fullness and skin thickening provided by transplanted fat. For details on the Ultherapy procedure and recovery, please look at our recent Ultherapy Blog.
Neck Rejuvenation with Coleman Structural Fat Grafting
A smooth neck with naturally thick, taught skin represents youth and beauty. Coleman structural fat (LipoStructure®) can provide underlying structural support to aging neck skin and underlying structures to restore youthful fullness. In addition, fat grafting thickens neck skin by increasing collagen and elastin, decreasing crêpiness and wrinkling. By restoring structural fullness and skin thickness, the neckbands (turkey neck) can be softened. Please go to the LipoStructure.com website for more examples of neck rejuvenation with fat grafting.
What happens to the neck as we age?
The skin of the neck often shows the first signs of aging. As we mature, fullness immediately underneath the skin disappears, while the neck skin thins and collagen diminishes. Eventually, the deterioration of the skin texture and loss of fullness leads to wrinkling and crêpiness. Another problem occurs as well: the underlying structures of the neck become more visible and the superficial neck muscles (the platysma) become more obvious as bands. Over time, a waddle or double chin can develop.
Traditional necklifts act by distorting tissues to unnatural positions
For decades, physicians have tried to reverse the sagging neck using a necklift. Unfortunately, a necklift lifts and tightens by deforming the skin and underlying tissues of the neck. The “lifting” is accomplished by pulling and distorting skin in an unnatural direction, amputating the skin, and then tying the stretched, displaced skin up to a less than anatomic location behind the ear. Coleman fat grafting and Ultherapy rejuvenate while leaving the skin in its natural position.
Coleman Structural Fat Grafting to the Neck
Fat grafting to the neck is a simple procedure. First, under intravenous sedation similar to what one has during a colonoscopy, a small volume of fat (about 300cc or 10 fluid oz) is harvested (gently suctioned by hand) from donor sites such as the abdomen or inner thighs. The fat is specially processed to separate out the fluids that are not needed, and super-concentrate the fat, with its inherent stem cells and associated biological anti-aging messengers. Using specially designed mini-cannulas (injection tubes), the fat is then meticulously placed through tiny puncture sites in a thin layer between the surface of the skin and the neck muscles. Individual lines and creases may be treated separately by injecting fat directly beneath them as well. The procedure takes about 90 minutes, and recovery is usually minor.
Recovery after Fat Grafting
The donor sites are sore and bruised, and the treated areas will be mildly swollen and bruised as well. Patients can usually return to normal activities within a few days, although it may take up to 3 weeks for the bruising to completely resolve. Strenuous exercise must be avoided for about 10 days. We like to say that “what you see is what you get” at 3 months; however, stem cells in the transplanted fat continue to rejuvenate the skin for years to come, resulting in softer, smoother, firmer and often more even-toned skin.
Timing of Neck Ultherapy and Fat Grafting
We strongly recommend that Ultherapy from Ulthera, be used to lift and tighten the skin of the neck before neck fat grafting. It is the only non-invasive FDA-approved treatment for lifting and tightening of skin. Ultherapy and Coleman fat grafting go hand and hand to provide the most successful and natural neck rejuvenation possible.
