It used to be that most women thought “the smaller the butt, the better.” Now, however, thanks in part to the popularity of celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce, many women desire the look of a larger, rounder and firmer-looking buttocks. Men, as well, often desire the rounder, higher buttocks they had when they were younger, or may never have had. Due to aging and hereditary factors, it is just not possible for some persons to obtain this look with diet and exercise alone. However, if a man or woman has extra fat in the abdomen, thighs, hips or lovehandles, we can remove this fat and put it into the buttocks. It takes a fairly large volume of fat to enhance the buttocks, so this is a more challenging procedure for the thin person with few fat stores. Surgery takes from 2 1/2 to 5 hours, and most patients are uncomfortable in the donor areas for several days. Care must be taken not to put pressure on the freshly grafted fat, so we advise sleeping on the stomach and sitting in a position which will put the least amount of pressure on the buttocks for at least 2 weeks. Patients are very pleased with the results of buttock augmentation surgery.
